Homemade Chicken Burger: a thousand times better than McDonald's

Often it's difficult to beat the taste of foods from large food chains, which is not the case with this Homemade Chicken Burger. That's not only my personal opinion, but my family's too: this hamburger is a thousand times better than the McDonald's hamburger.

In case you're not entirely sure what a Chicken Burger is... it's a delicious crispy chicken burger with lettuce and barbecue sauce. And if you prepare it at home, it's even more delicious. The Chicken Burgers don't have cheese, but I put a slice of cheddar cheese on each one.

I share with you how to make barbecue sauce, crispy chicken burgers, and hamburger buns. The hamburger buns are not exactly like Chicken Burgers, these have a better consistency and flavor. Also, I have made them in such a way that you don't need to cut them, you can open them without cutting them. You'll see how fun it is. You can choose to use store-bought buns if you don't want to make your own burger buns.

How to make the best Chicken Burgers at home

How to make hamburger buns

Start by making the dough for the buns, so that while the dough rests, you can make the barbecue sauce and then the burgers.

Ingredients you need to make hamburger buns

  • Flour: you need 500 grams of all-purpose flour
  • Sunflower oil: you need 100 milliliters of sunflower oil
  • Egg: one M size egg
  • Sugar: 30 grams of white sugar
  • Water: approximately 200 milliliters water
  • Bakery yeast: a bag of baker's yeast (7 grams)
  • Salt: 10 grams of salt
  • Margarine: 20 grams margarine or butter
  • Sesame: although the Chicken Burger buns do not have sesame seeds, I have added them
  • Water: a bit of water to paint the loaves before putting them in the oven

How to make hamburger buns

In a bowl, add the flour, sugar, yeast, oil, lightly beaten egg and water (add the water little by little). Mix with a spatula or wooden spoon and add the salt, when you can't mix anymore, knead by hand for about 10 minutes.

When you have kneaded well, add the margarine (it has to be soft), and knead for about 5 more minutes. Put it in a bowl and cover it with a damp kitchen towel and let it rise in size for 1 to 2 hours.

Once the dough has doubled in size, divide the dough into 16 parts to make 8 burgers. It is best to weigh the dough and divide the result by 16. You can also do it by eye if you are good at it. Make balls of the dough and cover them with a kitchen towel so that they do not dry out. When you have made the balls, prepare a baking tray, put baking paper on it and lightly sprinkle it with flour.

Flatten the balls, you can help yourself with a roller, leaving them with a thickness of approximately 1 centimeter. So that you don't have to cut these hamburger buns, put a circle of dough on the bottom and put another on top.

Dust them lightly with flour, cover them with a damp kitchen towel and let them rest for about 45 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 180º. Brush the buns with water and sprinkle them with sesame seeds. Bake them for 12 to 15 minutes. When you take them out, cover them with a kitchen towel, this way they will be softer, and let them rest for a few minutes before using them.

How to make Barbecue Sauce

Make your own Barbecue Sauce for your Chicken Burgers following the following recipe.

Ingredients you need to make Barbecue Sauce

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar (or less if you don't like vinegar a lot)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

How to make Barbecue Sauce

Mix all the ingredients and leave it on low/medium heat for about 30 minutes. Let it cool and use it for your burgers.

It can be stored for one to two weeks in the refrigerator.

How to make Chicken Burger like McDonald's or better

You are going to love these chicken burgers. The best thing is that you can freeze them perfectly and use them whenever you want.

Ingredients you need to make the chicken hamburgers

  • Approximately 500 grams of chicken breast
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • approximately 150 grams crushed corn flakes
  • flour

How to make the crispy chicken burgers

Cut the chicken breast into cubes and mince it in the mincer. Add the garlic and onion powder, and salt and pepper to taste and mix. Prepare a tray with baking paper to put the burgers on, since you have to freeze them for about an hour. Divide the minced chicken into 8 and make hamburger shapes on the tray with baking paper. To make the chicken easier to handle, have a bowl of water next to you to moisten your hands so the chicken doesn't stick to your hands. Cover the burgers with aluminum foil or another piece of baking paper and put it in the freezer for about 1 hour.

When the burgers are hard enough, coat them first in flour, then in beaten egg, and finally in crushed cornflakes. Once they are all done, fry them in plenty of oil.

Notes

  • If you see that the dough for the buns is a little dry, you can add more water. If, on the other hand, it is very sticky, add a little more flour.
