Mango Smoothie Bowl

Quick and healthy breakfast - Mango Smoothie Bowl

If you are tired of making toast for breakfast for your family and you want to surprise them with something new, you must prepare this Mango Smoothie Bowl! It´s very refreshing and sooooo delicious, even the little ones will enjoy it.

Making a smoothie bowl is a colorful and fun way to eat fruit for the whole family!

What is a smoothie bowl?

In case you haven't discovered the world of smoothie bowls yet and you don't really know what it is... don't worry, I'll explain it to you right now.

A smoothie bowl is a smoothie in a bowl. The only difference is that the smoothie that you are going to prepare is going to have a thicker consistency, almost like ice cream. It's prepared with frozen fruit, almost always the base is banana, but you can add any fruit you want.

You put the smoothie into a bowl instead of in a glass, and you will have it with a spoon. But first, add your favorite toppings like: homemade granola, fresh fruit, nuts, seeds and even chocolate chips.

Why a Mango Smoothie Bowl?

Every year in July the mango season starts, therefore, you can get mangoes at a very good price. Which I take advantage of because I love mangoes. And I can't help but make a Mango Smoothie Bowl whenever I have a mangoes at home!

Mango is a very sweet and soft fruit, ideal for preparing this delicious breakfast.

Ingredients you need to make this delicious Mango Smoothie Bowl

You can make this Mango Smoothie Bowl however you like, this is the way I like it the most, fresh, smooth, sweet, healthy and with a crunchy touch.

  • Banana: you need a frozen banana. Before you freeze the banana, cut it into pieces, like that you'll be able to add it easily to the blender
  • Mango: for this Mango Smoothie Bowl, you'll be using a whole mango. Ideally, it should be cold and just taken out of the fridge. You are going to use half a mango to prepare the smoothie and the other half is to put on top of the smoothie.
  • Milk or water: when you are going to blend the frozen banana with the mango, you may need to add a tablespoon or two of water or milk to make it blendable. My preference is to use milk, but either will work.
  • Chia seeds: use 1/2 teaspoon of chia seeds to decorate, they are not only used to decorate, but they are very healthy too. If you don´t have chia seeds at home, do not worry, make it without and you will have a delicious result anyway
  • Almonds: for this recipe you need 6 almonds, but you can substitute it for walnuts, hazelnuts or any kind of nuts
  • Granola: you need 1/4 cup of granola, if you usually use granola, make this homemade granola which will last you a month and you will avoid many unnecessary fats, sugars and salt
  • Agave syrup: you will use a tablespoon of agave syrup to sweeten. You can also use honey if you prefer.

Kitchen tools you need

To make this Mango Smoothie Bowl I have used:

  • Blender: to make a smoothie bowl, I use a grinder, it's small and I feel like it works better than using a blender
  • Cutting board: I use a cutting board to cut the mango
  • Knife: I use a knife to cut the mango
  • Bowl: a small bowl to put the smoothie in to
  • Measuring utensils: you need 1/4 cup, a spoon and a small measuring spoon

How to make this delicious Mango Smoothie Bowl

It's incredibly easy to prepare this breakfast, you just need to follow the steps.

First cut the mango into two, one part will be used for the smoothie and the other part is to put it on the smoothie as topping. If it´s very warm weather, prepare the mango that you are going to put on top beforehand so that the smoothie bowl does not melt while you cut the fruit.

Next, blend the frozen banana with the other half of the mango. If you see that the blender is not able to blend the frozen banana and mango well, add one or two tablespoons of milk or water. Once you have achieved a thick smoothie, put it into a bowl.

Decorate it with the mango pieces, granola, almonds and chia seeds how you prefer.

Enjoy it!

To make this Mango Smoothie Bowl vegan

It´s very simple to make this Mango Smoothie Bowl vegan. If you need to add a little milk or water when you are blending the fruits, do not add milk of animal origin, you can use soy milk, oat milk, almond milk, or any non-dairy milk you have on hand. To sweeten, use agave syrup instead of honey. Voilà, now you have a vegan Mango Smoothie Bowl!

Frequently asked questions

Below I answer some frequently asked questions, if you do not find the answer, you can leave a comment below.

Will this Mango Smoothie Bowl enough for breakfast?

Yes, before starting your day, you will have already had a good amount of fruit. The granola on top has a good amount of oats, which is very nutritious. Almonds are high in protein, although if you are concerned about your protein intake, you can add your favorite protein to the smoothie. You could also add a few tablespoons of Greek yogurt for a higher protein intake.

Can I add ice cubes to the smoothie?

I do not advise you to add ice cubes, they are difficult to blend and almost always there will be little pieces of ice left in the smoothie. Also, they melt very quickly and will make your smoothie very watery.

How do I get a thicker or more liquid consistency?

For a thicker consistency, add more frozen fruit, like frozen bananas. For a more liquid consistency, you can add a little milk or water.
