There is nothing like some Black Cumin Rolls for breakfast or to serve with any meal. These rolls have black cumin on top, this gives them a delicious and very different flavor. If you've never tried black cumin, now is the time!
Why make Black Cumin Buns
One of the things I love is having homemade bread in my house. These rolls are ideal for breakfast, accompanying meals or making delicious soft sandwiches. They keep incredibly well, both in a tightly closed bag or in the freezer.
Not only are they delicious, but black cumin, also called Nigella Sativa, provides many health benefits. I recommend that you look for more information about black cumin if you are interested, since I am not going to go into health on my blog. 🙂
How to make Black Cumin Buns
If you feel like trying these Black Cumin Rolls, I will explain step by step how to make them.
Ingredients you need to make Black Cumin Rolls
- 500 grams of all-purpose flour
- 10 grams of baker's yeast
- 25 grams sugar
- 1 medium egg at room temperature
- 1/4 cup of milk of your choice (I make them with whole milk or soy milk and they are great either way)
- 45 grams of melted margarine
- 10 grams of salt
- approximately 200 milliliters of water
- 1 egg + 2 tablespoons of water to paint the rolls before putting them in the oven
- black cumin
Instructions
In a bowl add the flour, sugar, baker's yeast, egg, milk, melted margarine and mix with a spatula. Add the water little by little and also add the salt. Knead by hand for approximately 10 minutes on a floured surface. If the dough is very dry, add a little water. However, if it is too sticky, add a little flour. After kneading for about 10 minutes, the dough should be very slightly sticky and elastic.
Put it in a bowl and cover it with a damp kitchen towel until it doubles in size (1 to 2 hours).
Using a kitchen scale, weigh 80 to 85 gram balls of dough. Flatten them and then take the dough from the edges and put them towards the center to form a ball again (you can watch the video below to see how to do it). Put them on a baking tray (on baking paper), cover them and let them rest for about 45 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 180º degrees. Brush the rolls with the egg and two tablespoons of water. Put the black cumin seeds on top.
Bake for approximately 12 minutes (depending on the oven it may be a little more or a little less).
Let them cool on a rack.
Enjoy them, Bismillah!
