You only need 3 ingredients to make this refreshing homemade lemonade. It is so simple and refreshing that it makes it an ideal drink for a hot summer day. Many people wonder: can I use brown sugar to make lemonade? The answer is yes! Brown sugar gives a delicious and different flavor to lemonade, and not least, brown sugar is healthier than white sugar!
Why make this delicious Homemade Lemonade with Brown Sugar
Surely some of you are going to see this, and ask yourselves, “do I really need a recipe to make a simple lemonade?” And of course, a lemonade can be made practically without a recipe and still turn out good. But… having a recipe on hand with the exact amounts is important to achieve the perfect flavor.
Most homemade lemonade recipes use white sugar, my version of homemade lemonade uses brown sugar. The reason I use brown sugar to make lemonade is the following: white sugar is much more processed than brown sugar. This means that brown sugar maintains better its nutrients.
Making a homemade lemonade is extremely easy, but it is so important to have the right quantities. Too many lemons can make it very sour and undrinkable (unless you are one of the people who eat lemons as is…). Using too much water makes a watery lemonade, which is not to anyone's liking either. What I am sharing today is a recipe for a balanced, refreshing lemonade, ideal for these hot summer months. Everyone will love this drink!
Ingredients you need to make this refreshing homemade lemonade
You only need 3 ingredients, and I'm sure you have them at home!
- Lemons: get the best lemons you can find in your area. You only need 2 big lemons or 3 medium ones
- Brown sugar: I prefer using brown sugar as it maintains better its properties and I also prefer the taste of brown sugar, so does my family.
- Water: use filtered water if you live somewhere where you can't drink tap water. To reduce the cooling time, you can use cold water.
- Mint: using mint is optional, but adding some gives it a very nice and refresing taste
- Ice cubes: optional, but... drinking a refreshing glass of homemade lemonade, in my opinion needs ice cubes
How to make this refreshing homemade lemonade
It's as easy as mixing the brown sugar with some hot water to dissolve it well. Add the lemon juice. A couple of hours in the fridge and it will be ready to enjoy. If you have used cold water, it will be ready to drink quicker.
